Background & Establishment of MDM Darul Uloom Mohammadiya Madani Masjid Trust

"The Kumaon division of Uttarakhand, situated near Nainital and adjoining the international borders of Nepal, Tibet, and China, is a critically sensitive and historically underserved region. Across remote forests and Himalayan foothills, Muslim settlements were deeply deprived of religious education and Islamic awareness—to the extent that people were unaware of the Kalima of Tawheed, and in numerous places, there was not even a single qualified person available to lead funeral prayers. In these unfavorable conditions, by the divine grace of Allah Almighty and the counsel and patronage of the illustrious elders of the Ummah, this sacred fortress of Islam was founded."

1. Geographical Background & Sacred Inception (1412 AH / 1992 CE)

The mountainous terrain and foothill populations of northern India had long suffered from severe spiritual and educational scarcity. In the town of Gadarpur, District Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand—a key regional nexus near Nainital, Haldwani, Rudrapur, and Tanakpur—the residing Muslim communities, due to their vast distance from Islamic institutions, were not only disconnected from authentic beliefs, Shariah commandments, and communal consciousness, but were also ensnared in polytheistic customs, innovations (Bid’ah), and deep-seated ignorance. In dense forested tracts, Muslim communities (such as the Muslim Gujjar community) were living under conditions where they were Muslim in name only, with virtually no distinction in daily customs and rituals from surrounding non-Muslim populations.

Distressed by this spiritual void, Rahbar-e-Millat Hazrat Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib Damat Barkatuhum (Khalifah of Muhyi-us-Sunnah Hazrat Maulana Shah Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib Hardoiؒ) took the solemn initiative to establish an educational and reformative sanctuary. Hazrat Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib was nurtured and trained under distinguished luminaries of knowledge and spirituality:

  • ‘Arif-Billah Hazrat Al-Haj Hafiz Abdul Haq Sahibؒ: Disciple, spiritual successor, and heir of Hazrat Shah Wajid Ali Sahibؒ.
  • Ustadh al-Asatidhah Hazrat Qari Hakim Abdul Aziz Sahibؒ: Direct eminent student of Rais al-Judayn Hazrat Qari Abdul Malik Sahibؒ.
  • Qati‘-e-Bid‘at Hami-e-Sunnat Hazrat Shah Fazlul Haq Sahibؒ: Successor of Hazrat Shah Abdul Haq Sahibؒ.
  • Hazrat Qari Abdur Rahman Sahibؒ and Hazrat Sufi Mohammad Zubair Sahibؒ.

In 1412 AH (1992 CE), upon consulting with paramount scholars and spiritual guides of the era, the foundation of Majlis Da‘wat-ul-Haq – Madrasa Darul Uloom Mohammadiya (Madani Masjid Trust) was formally laid in Gadarpur.

2. Founding Elders & Mentors Who Counseled, Blessed & Endorsed the Seminary

Before laying the foundation stone, Hazrat Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib sought direct guidance, prayers, and written endorsements from the leading spiritual authorities and scholastic pillars of the Islamic world:

Murshid-e-Awwal Hazrat Shah Maseehullah Khan Jalalabadiؒ Maseeh-ul-Ummat, Senior Successor of Hakim-ul-Ummat Hazrat Thanviؒ — Blessed the seminary with special patronage and foundational prayers.
Murshid-e-Thani Hazrat Shah Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib Hardoiؒ Muhyi-us-Sunnah, Khalifah of Hazrat Thanviؒ — Granted Khilafat, continuously guided its Sunnah methodologies, and made personal visits.
‘Arif-Billah Hazrat Qari Sayyid Siddiq Ahmad Sahib Bandwiؒ Servant of Jamia Islamia Hathora Banda — Sincere advisor, prayed extensively for its progress, and issued an official certificate of cooperation.
Mufakkir-e-Islam Hazrat Sayyid Abul Hasan Ali Hasani Nadwiؒ Ali Mian Nadwi, Rector of Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow — Deeply appreciated its work in hostile conditions and issued an official written endorsement.
Shaykh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Maulana Abdul Haq Sahibؒ Former Shaykh-ul-Hadith, Darul Uloom Deoband (Azhar-e-Hind) — Personally visited and blessed the academic departments.
Shaykh-ul-Hadith Hazrat Maulana Wasim Ahmad Sahibؒ Jamia Ashraf-ul-Uloom Rashidiya Gangoh — Continuous academic supervisor and examiner.

4. Educational Revolution & Outreach in Himalayan & Forest Belts

From its humble beginning under a thatched roof shack, Darul Uloom Mohammadiya has grown into a distinguished higher Islamic seat of learning, complete with Tahfeez-ul-Quran, Dars-e-Nizami Alimiyat, Dawra-e-Hadith, and contemporary education.

Graduates and Huffaz from this seminary regularly secure top-merit admissions in Asia’s greatest Islamic universities, including Darul Uloom Deoband (Azhar-e-Hind), Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur, and Jamia Qasimia Madrasa Shahi Moradabad. Furthermore, graduates returning to their native states—including Assam, Manipur, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh—are serving as leading religious guides in their respective communities.

Exceptional Mission Work in Remote Mountainous Settlements:

  • Ramadan Huffaz & Imams Deputation: In hundreds of isolated villages across the Himalayan foothills where local residents cannot arrange prayers, the Jamia deputes qualified Imams and Huffaz for the entire month of Ramadan and bears 100% of their living, travel, and stipend expenses.
  • Mosques & Maktabs in Dense Forest Settlements: Among the Muslim Gujjar community living inside dense jungle reserves where scholars could rarely reach, the Jamia established network maktabs and constructed permanent mosques, providing clean drinking water through submersible pumps and funding teachers' salaries entirely from the center.
  • Branch Network Across Multiple Districts: In addition to Uttarakhand, over 20 structured branch schools are functioning across Rampur, Bijnor, Haridwar, Moradabad, and Ghaziabad.

5. Existing Campus Infrastructure & Facilities (Pages 14–15 of Risala)

Over three decades of selfless public support, the following campus facilities have been developed:

  • Madani Masjid: Accommodates 500 worshippers simultaneously, featuring 7 interior prayer rows, 2 spacious verandah rows, a central dome, and an open paved courtyard.

  • Arabic & Persian Wing: Main academic hall and lecture rooms for Dars-e-Nizami and Hadith studies.
  • Darul Shifa (Medical Dispensary): Providing round-the-clock free first aid, consultations, and medicines to over 350 residential students.

“In favorable circumstances, work is accomplished easily; however, in unfavorable conditions and a hostile environment, difficulties arise. My dear brother, Maulvi Mazahir-ul-Haq (may Allah protect him), is establishing madrasas, maktabs, and mosques in needed areas near the hilly regions. This has truly pleased my heart. May Allah bless him and accept his efforts. May Allah Almighty accept his noble endeavours and grant him protection from every evil and trial. Āmīn.”

2. Shaykh al-‘Arab wal-‘Ajam, Hazrat Maulana Sayyid Abul Hasan ‘Ali al-Hasani Nadwiؒ 19 / 4 / 1419 AH

“Through some friends, I have come to know that in Gadarpur, District Nainital, and the locality of Udham Singh Nagar, the local Islamic institution Majlis Da‘wat al-Haqq, comprising Madrasa Darul Uloom Muhammadiyah and Madani Masjid Trust, is engaged in the religious education and moral training of the new generation under unfavorable circumstances. The Muslims of this area are in great need of this madrasa. This institution is being run solely with the cooperation of people of goodwill and is deserving of their support. In order to encourage cooperation with the responsible members of the madrasa, I have written this certificate. All of them are people of sound beliefs and good character. Wa-salaam.”

“I, the humble one, am well acquainted with my respected and beloved brother, Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib (may his honour increase). He is a khalīfah and a trusted confidant of Hazrat Wala Hardoi (may Allah illuminate his resting place). The special affection and kindness shown to him by the Reviver of the Sunnah, Hazrat Maulana Shah Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib Hardoi, are vividly present before my eyes. In the hilly and forested regions of Uttarakhand, you are carrying out extensive religious and community services with great diligence and selfless effort. You also undertake the construction of mosques in areas of need, along with other welfare activities. I was blessed with the opportunity to visit your hometown, Gadarpur, and witnessed several established madrasas and maktabs... Masha’Allah, excellent work is being carried out. I strongly recommend to the people of goodwill that by extending full support to Maulana Sahib in these works, they may attain reward in both this world and the Hereafter.”

For the past six years, it has been rendering religious services. Because of this Madrasah, religious awareness is increasing in the area. There is no other religious institution in the surrounding region for a considerable distance. The construction of the mosque is currently in progress. Financial resources are limited... All respected brothers are humbly requested to keep this Madrasah in mind and to make efforts within their circle of friends to support it. Ameen.”

This humble servant appeals to the benevolent and well-to-do people to extend their cooperation and support to this institution. Indeed, Allah does not let the reward of the righteous go to waste.”

From the examinations, it became vividly evident that all the teachers have exerted great effort. Their care, attention, and compassion towards the students are clearly visible. The teachers possess a burning commitment that, in this barren and ignorance-stricken region, this madrasa should serve as a beacon of light, guiding the community and the Ummah. I examined books including Miftah al-‘Arabiyyah, Ilm al-Sighah, Khasiyyat al-Abwab, Sharh Tahdhib, and Sharh Wiqayah; the students’ answers were thoroughly gratifying.”

I also had the honor of meeting respected Shaykh Hazrat Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib. This was a historic and blessed visit. In this rural, economically disadvantaged border region, such an institution was critically needed to provide correct Islamic education to Muslim boys and girls. I was deeply pleased to observe the extensive network of makatib established across surrounding villages. I humbly appeal to people of goodwill to act upon the Quranic command ‘And cooperate in righteousness and piety’ by extending full financial cooperation to this seminary.”

— Muhammad Abu Tahir Qasmi Nadwi (Chittagong, Bangladesh)
15. Hadhrat Maulana Muhammad Ayyub Sahib Bhatkali Nadwi 7 Muharram al-Haram 1421 AH

“Graduate of Nadwatul Ulama Lucknow, Teacher at Jamia Islamia Bhatkal, and President of Jamiat-us-Sunnah wal Khairiyyah, Gujarat: Today, I visited Majlis Da‘wat-ul-Haqq Madrasa Darul Uloom Muhammadiya. This institution supervises many makatib across forest and foothill regions, with thousands of students studying Quran under the patronage of Muhyi-us-Sunnah Hazrat Shah Abrar-ul-Haq Sahib. The foothills of the Himalayas adjoining the borders of China and Nepal, covering four hundred square kilometers, are heavily dominated by non-Muslim cultures where people were unfamiliar even with the basic Kalima and Salah. In such conditions, this madrasa and its makatib are rendering invaluable service. Madrasa Darul Uloom Muhammadiya is in urgent need of mosque expansion, hostel rooms, and classroom construction. I appeal to all benefactors to generously assist Maulana Mazahir-ul-Haq Sahib in this sacred endeavor.”

— Muhammad Ayyub Bhatkali Nadwi (7 Muharram 1421 AH)
